A CCS School Day
Three days a week Clermont Christian School students gather together for our on-campus days. Each school day is structured with intentionality to grow our students in character, academic skill, and Godly wisdom. Here’s a peek at what these on-campus days look like:
Morning Assembly
All students join together for a brief time of prayer, hymns, and “character call-outs” - short call-and-response slogans that cover faith, character, and manners. On Fridays, Mr. Weis, CCS headmaster, gives a short teaching on foundational doctrines taught in the Apostles’ Creed, the Ten Commandments, or the Lord’s Prayer.
Academic Classes
Our classrooms are broken up into grade ranges (K-2nd, 3rd-5th, etc.) so that students of similar ages learn together, but are able to practice skills like math or spelling at their individual skill level. A classical Christian curriculum is vigorous, enriching, and integrated around Christ as the focal point. It starts with a student’s mastery of language and mathematics. These skills provide the foundation for the in-depth study of God’s Word and His world.
Our K-2nd grade students focus on building the basic skills of reading, writing, and number sense. They enjoy learning through rich stories, Latin nursery rhymes, crafts, and poetry recitation.
Our 3rd-5th grade students are growing into study skills as they begin to master Scripture, mathematics, English grammar, Latin vocabulary, and history. This year they have been diving into Roman history, enjoying activities such as building mini aqueducts and tasting Mediterranean food.
Our oldest students (6th grade and up) are beginning to wrestle with the deeper moral questions presented in history and literature, wrapping up their grammar studies to move on to the study of logic, and honing their writing skills to become skilled communicators.
Daily Physical Fitness
A common sense classical education doesn't leave the body behind. We must train the heart, body, and mind all together. Each day our students participate in half an hour of physical fitness training to strengthen their bodies. Cardio exercise, calisthenics, active games, and folk/social dancing lay a basic foundation of physical health and prepare students’ minds for attention and hard work.
Lunchtime & Recesses
Students begin lunch eating quietly while listening to the music appreciation pieces for the year - this allows them some quiet from the busyness of the morning and ensures they get time to eat something before socializing. After this brief quiet time, they are invited to chat and socialize with one another for the remaining 15 minutes before cleanup. Sometimes a read-aloud and discussion will be offered at this time to provide additional enrichment to the student’s conversation.
Students take a morning and afternoon recess each day, outside whenever possible. Between recesses and their daily physical fitness class, our students are outside for at least an hour during school hours when weather permits.
Friday Enrichment
Fridays are set aside for all of our enrichment subjects - art, music, handicrafts, nature study, and poetry recitation/drama. These “special” subjects round out a classical education through the mastery of practical skills and deep appreciation for beauty in God’s creation and our culture. Our youngest students enjoy the messiness of paint and glue and the wonder of nature study. Older students are mastering the foundational skills of drawing and looking forward to their annual skit - this year from Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream.
If you are looking for a rich Christian education for your child, we believe they would thrive here! Apply today for our upcoming school year.
